This is the 20th year that St Monica Catholic School has participated in this national math coaching and competition program for 6th, 7th and 8th grade students.
Some students love math. Other students fear math. MATHCOUNTS is the place for both.
The purpose of MathCounts is to increase the interest and involvement in math at the middle school level with the eventual result of having a more technically knowledgeable group of adults. The program starts in the fall, meets weekly and concludes before spring break. During the meetings, we’ll look at a variety of problem-solving techniques, develop some critical thinking skills, and have “Sum Fun.” We will have a school level competition in mid-January and in early February there is a local competition involving 10-12 other middle schools in the southwestern Michigan area. Join us!

Choir Director, Mrs. Shannon Scoles, was happily overwhelmed with the number of students who chose to participate this past year & our Liturgical Choir continues to be a huge success! Students' voices offering praise to the Lord is a beautiful a gift to our entire school community. Practices take place directly after school on Tuesdays, Wednesdays & Thursdays, depending on grade level.
Experienced seamstresses from St. Monica Parish teach our students sewing basics at Sewing Club! Students in Grades 2-8 are welcome to attend and learn various hand-sewing techniques while working on fun projects. Students meet directly after school on scheduled Wednesdays through-out the year. There is no cost, all materials are provided, and students can take their creations home!
Each year, 4th and 5th Grade students participate in a team competition based on knowledge of books. Students are assign books to read from January until the competition in March. The competition is comprised of short-answer, multiple choice, and true/false questions based on the books that they were to read. The winning team at the school level will advance to the district level which is hosted at one of our local Catholic schools.
